AI video cost per clip calculator: cloud plan vs your own GPU

Work out what one AI video clip really costs on a credit-based cloud plan and on your own graphics card.

Cloud app —
Local GPU —

Cloud apps sell video as credits inside a monthly plan, so the price of one clip is rarely shown. This calculator turns a plan price and credit cost into a price per clip, and compares it with the electricity your own GPU uses. The fields start with example values; replace them with your own.

How the numbers are worked out

Cloud: price per clip = plan price ÷ floor(credits per month ÷ credits per clip)
Local: price per clip = (GPU watts ÷ 1000) × (render minutes ÷ 60) × price per kWh
+ GPU price ÷ clips over its life (optional)

The local figure is electricity only unless you add the GPU write-off. It does not include the rest of the computer, which adds to the power draw.

Worked examples from published numbers

OurDream AI, monthly plan

OurDream AI lists $19.99 a month with 1,000 dreamcoins, and 100 coins for a 10-second “Spicy 1.0” clip on its generate page. By those numbers the plan covers 10 such clips, about $2.00 per 10-second clip. This is arithmetic from the vendor’s figures, not our test.

Promptchan, Pro plan

Promptchan puts video on its Pro plan, $33.99 a month with 800 Gems, on its upgrade page. Its video tutorial says a clip costs “a handful of gems” and gives no fixed number. The calculator’s example uses 20 Gems per clip as an assumption, which gives 40 clips and about $0.85 per clip. Change it once you see the real cost in the app.

Wan 2.2 on an RTX 4090

The Wan 2.2 TI2V-5B model card says it makes a 5-second 720p clip in under 9 minutes on one consumer GPU. NVIDIA lists 450 W total graphics power for the RTX 4090. At an example price of $0.17 per kWh, 9 minutes at 450 W costs about 1 cent of electricity. The card itself is the real cost: spread a GPU’s price over the clips you expect to make with it.

What the calculator cannot tell you

  • Failed or refused generations still cost credits in many apps. Our clip tests will count them.
  • Higher resolution or longer clips usually cost more credits. Check the app’s own price before each render.
  • Local rendering time depends on your settings, drivers and model version.
